Tirra Lirra House

Overview

A series of pavilions linked by covered walkways, set into a lush, established garden. Exposed hardwood beams, sweeping skillion roofs, and bluestone paving carry through from entry to outdoor living — every detail built for purpose, airflow, and a life lived in harmony with the built environment.

Materials & Craft

• — Finished in crazy paved stone, lime-based natural render, and Australian hardwood timber, with timber veneer joinery, high-set glazing, and timber sliding doors throughout — materials chosen to age naturally and sit quietly within the landscape.
• — Every junction in Tirra Lirra House was considered carefully by the team at Aspect Architecture before it was given to use for construction. Woking with the Architect and home owner was the key element to such an amazing build. The exposed hardwood framing carries real structural load, which means there was no room for shortcuts — joints, fixings, and beam intersections all had to be set out with precision, because nothing was hidden behind a ceiling line to cover up the work. Lime render was hand-applied in the traditional way, building up in coats to get that soft, slightly imperfect texture that a sprayed finish can't replicate. The crazy paving was laid stone by stone, each piece selected and fitted by hand rather than cut to a uniform module.
• — It's the kind of build that rewards a slower pace and a skilled hand — where the trades on site were given the time to do the job properly, because the finished result depends on it. Nothing here is decorative for its own sake; the craft is in making the structure itself the finish.
